Human waste management has been a challenge especially for institutions due to the number of students and the high cost of building the proper infrastructure to facilitate the same.
Building of latrines has worsened the situation because they get filled up really quick, produce bad odour and contaminate ground water due to percolation of the fecal fluid to the underground water. This exposes the students to diseases like typhoid and cholera putting their health at great risk.
Our innovative system features a multi-stage fermentation process with a minimum retention time of 90 days, ensuring the complete dissolution, fermentation, and breakdown of solid waste. Furthermore, the extended anaerobic retention period guarantees the elimination of any harmful pathogens.
To prevent any potential transmission of human communicable diseases, we do not recommend using the treated black water (toilet water) for irrigating vegetables. We understand that many cultures hold reservations about using such water for food cultivation. In line with these cultural sensitivities and a commitment to maintaining the highest hygiene standards, we promote the use of treated black water for tree plantations, animal fodder fields, and live fencing.
Our sealed digester systems employ subsurface “French Drain” irrigation techniques to distribute the water directly to plant roots. This topsoil irrigation method allows for efficient nutrient absorption by plant roots, reducing the risk of groundwater contamination.

Anaerobic Grey Water Treatment for Showers and Kitchen Sinks
Our Bio-San system extends its capabilities to treat kitchen sink and shower water through an anaerobic grey water treatment plant. This processed water, treated with Effective Micro-organisms (EM), can be utilized for irrigation purposes.
Similar in design to our Bio-San system, this process guarantees complete fermentation, breaking down soaps and oils. The extended retention time of over 40 days ensures the complete elimination of pathogens, as confirmed by laboratory tests.

For institutions and large capacity use, the BioSanGas plants manage this waste and produces gas that can be used for heating purposes, running machinery such as chuff-cutters, hummer mills and for power generation.
The system comes in different sizes depending on the number of people that will be feeding the plant.
The plant also ensures complete digestion of the waste and the exiting liquid is full of nutrients and safe to use as fertilizer for the lawns and play ground, tree planting programs like fruit trees, live fencing and hedgerows, etc.

THE MERRY LOO TOILET – FOR DOMESTIC USE
The Merry loo is a simple low cost replacement of the pit latrine that is ablove ground. It features a multi chamber digester to ensure total liquidation of solids and complete fermentation, which also means the system never fills up and never requires emptying.
